Resumen
In the present research project, the production of monosaccharides (reducing sugars) and inhibitory products (furfural and hydroxymethylfurfural) generated in the hydrolysis process of rice husk (biomass) was studied.
A hydrolysis process was carried out using a batch-type steel reactor, through an Box Behnken design to different conditions: temperature (100 to 150°C), time (1 to 11 min), acid concentration (0 to 1%) and biomass concentration (0, 5 to 1, 5%). The determination of monosaccharides obtained was analyzed from dissolved organic carbon (DOC) readings, and to determine furfural and hydroxymethylfurfural was examined from spectrophotometric analyzes. From the results, a simulation model of the process with different conditions of the factors was made from the use of the mathematical equations of each of the variables of interest obtained in the different analysis of variance.
The mathematical equations for the simulation model were significant, with adjusted coefficients of determination (adjusted R2) of 85.1%, 82.43% and 91.52% for dissolved organic carbon, hydroxymethylfurfural and furfural respectively. The optimal levels for the generation of dissolved monosaccharides are close to the high levels that were agreed in the study (6,82minutes, 149,6°C, 0,86% of acid concentration and 1.48% of biomass concentration), obtaining 34,46% of monosaccharides. The amount of inhibitor products was determined, obtaining maximum values of 0,288% and 0,025% for hydroxymethylfurfural and furfural. All these effects allow us to describe the production process of monosaccharides from the production residue of piled rice.
