BACKGROUND: the World Health Organization recommends breastfeeding exclusively during the first six months of life, and continue it until two years. There are influential factors such as social, economic and cultural factors which stimulate the mother to opt for the incorporation of artificial lactation.
GENERAL OBJECTIVE: determine the factors related in the artificial lactation in mothers with children less than two years of the Sayausi parish.
METHODOLOGICAL DESIGN: The present study has a quantitative, descriptive and cross-sectional approach. With a universe of 100 mothers of children under two years old, the technique used was the survey; tabulation was carried out in the programs: Excel and SPSS 20 and the results were presented in frequency and percentage tables.
RESULTS: 51% (n = 100) of mothers breastfeed their children up to the year, 17% (n = 100) up to six months; 56% of mothers have secondary education, 49% (n = 100) are married; 51% (n = 100) state that there is flaccidity when breastfeeding for a prolonged period; 77% (n = 100) report that anger changes the quality of breast milk, 58% (n = 100) said that they can spread a disease through breast milk.
CONCLUSIONS: the factors that were associated with artificial lactation were cultural knowledge about breastfeeding, despite receiving information about breastfeeding; Mothers maintain ignorance about the risks involved in artificial feeding
