Resumen
Introduction: Physical activity is associated with a wide range of health and developmental
benefits in children, including the prevention of overweight, obesity, cardiovascular disease, as
well as academic performance and mental health.
Objective: To analyze the influence of physical activity programs on anthropometric variables
and their relationship with the perception of body image, in children between 8 and 12 years old.
Methodology: A literature review was carried out in which articles on physical activity programs,
anthropometric variables and their relationship with body image perception in children between 8
and 12 years old were selected. We included indexed databases, articles, reviews and reports
from the last 5 years in Spanish and English. Results were presented according to PICO
methodology
Results: Physical activity programs for children between 8- and 12-years old show low,
moderate, and high levels of physical activity at the beginning of their implementation, as well as
a different dosage in each application. The programs influenced anthropometric variables, raised
self-esteem, improved satisfaction with body image and the competitive capacity of children.
Conclusions: Physical activity programs aimed at children between 8 and 12 years of age
contributed to an increase in self-esteem, improved perception of body image and satisfaction
with body image, the higher the frequency of physical activity, the greater the changes in relation
to the variables.
