Resumen
Psychological well-being is a multidimensional concept formed by social and
psychological factors, and behaviors related to the mental health of the individual. It
has its origin in positive psychology, following the eudaimonic tradition. The following
research seeks to determine the relationship that exists between psychological well-
being, its six dimensions, and demographic variables; with special emphasis in
economic income and its correlation with psychological well-being. Scores obtained
by different groups of students, organized by said demographic variables, were
analyzed to determine which groups show higher scores in the different dimensions
of psychological well-being. We worked with 83 students, between 18 and 32 years
old, from the clinical psychology career of the University of Cuenca, starting with a
population of 169 students, who were applied Ryff’s Psychological Well-being Test,
and a demographic sheet to identify relevant variables. There were not any
significative differences in the scores comparing students by their sex. Younger
students, between 18 and 22 years old, show lower scores than other age groups.
Students between 23 and 27 years old, showed higher scores, standing out in
environmental control and propose in life. Students older than 28 years old showed
the higher scores in autonomy. It was also found a positive correlation between
psychological well-being and income, but its to weak to be considered significant.
The only exception was propose in life, which had a negative correlation.
