Prevalencia de estomatitis subprotésica en pacientes portadores de prótesis removibles totales y parciales que fueron atendidos en la Facultad de Odontología de la Universidad de Cuenca en el periodo 2012- 2016

A descriptive study was developed in order to determine the prevalence of the denture stomatitis in patients with total or partial removable prosthesis. These patients were attended in the Dentistry School at University of Cuenca during the years 2012- 2016. A sample of 137 patients were used, 101 women (73.72%) and 36 men (26.28%). Their ages were between 31 and 90 years old with an average of 58.49 (SD=12.53). A clinical examination of patients, mediate direct observation of mucous membranes support technician, identified pathology was classified according to Newton, 1962 was carried out. The clinic test showed that 62 patients suffered from stomatitis, (45.3%). 60 patients suffered from stomatitis in the upper jaw, and 2 patients had stomatitis both in the upper and lower jaw. People with stomatitis in the lower jaw suffered from inflammations type II and III. These people with stomatitis in the upper jaw, 30 people suffered inflammations type I. 28 people type II and 4 people type III.
The evaluated population presented a prevalence of 45.3%, the same that is high; especially if we consider that the selected sample consisted of patients who switched their prostheses less than five years ago
