The aim of this research identified and describe about the role of the Educational Psychologist and his intervention fields in the DECE in Cuenca- Ecuador, from a contextual perspective. The focus was qualitative with exploratory-descriptive scope; for the collection of information, it was based on a documentary analysis and a semi-structured interview. It was applied to experts in the topic, selected through a type-cases sampling, since the research required specific information and knowledge related to it.
The obtained results based on the collected information by the experts indicate that the role of the educational psychologist focuses on the academic, educational, learning, implementation, promotion and active participation of the educational community. The identity of the educational psychologist is linked to what it represents socially, that is to say what they assume of it, identifying it as a problem solver in the educational bed. The field of intervention of the educational psychologist is housed in the Student Counseling Departments, the same ones that have taken a strong position; where the educational psychologist has been allowed to develop a series of functions that are given from the operating model of the DECE, and that, as scope of the participants, the fulfillment of the requirements proposed by the model is determined. However, there are limitations and problems that are associated with the current national regulations and the lack of institutional support that do not allow for a correct approach in these departments
