Resumen
The huayru is a ritual-funerary practice that reached a wide expansion in the Andes and
reached the current Ecuador possibly in pre-Columbian or even pre-Inca times and still
survives in the southern area. This project aims to learn about the perspectives and
meanings that the huayru acquires in rural areas of Azuay (Sígsig canton) for it is
necessary tools that anthropology has, such as ethnography. This allows us to approach
the personal perspectives that the huayru practitioners keep. That is to say, through
interviews and dialogues it is intended to access the oral memory of certain practitioners
and with the information gathered it will be possible to shed light on the unknown
meanings still existing in the XXI century about this practice. On the other hand, culture
is not static and is always in constant change because, with the wave of new information
typical of globalization, the huayru ritual is modified and requires an analysis that
explains its cultural procedure in contemporaneity and preserves a record that shows the
changes and its continuities
