Resumen
This project presents the research and elaboration process carried out to materialize four artistic sculptures of Ecuadorian birds in danger of extinction. This is how the idea of this thesis was born, in the face of the author's question of how to create sculptures of birds that could awaken the public's interest in these living beings; which led her to find the final answer in movement and automaton structures. Based on this, we first investigated kinetic works and their creators, continuing with the automata and the movement systems that give them life. Subsequently, the anatomical and physical characteristics of each bird were investigated, and the context within which these species are threatened was investigated. Likewise, an approach was made in the city to define what techniques and master craftsmen could contribute in the elaboration of the works. Then, a meticulous process of conceptualizing proposals, drawing up sketches, making models, tests and experimentation was developed to determine the materials, artisanal and artistic techniques, as well as motor
and construction systems, that would allow the birds and birds to be better represented. their movements; also taking into account the way in which various artists used those elements to build and give life to their works; and always hand in hand with the artisans who collaborated in the construction process. Finally, based on the research carried out in the various areas, the elements and inputs necessary to materialize the proposal of this work were obtained; Thus, in a constant creative process where the knowledge acquired with the artist's own artistic skills and with the techniques of the artisans were combined and fused, it was possible to create the
proposed works and obtain four kinetic-automaton sculptures, through which, through an exhibition, could make the reality of these species known to the public and promote interest in their reality and the importance of their preservation.
