Resumen
At present, there are spaces that are considered places and non-places; These have been given by the way of making architecture, by its lace with the context and by the perception of the society.
Defines place as the space that has symbolic values and historical, being this unique and singular that is related to the human being. And it is considered the non-place as places without soul, where does not have any relation with the human being; these non-places are transitional, of a temporary character, subject to change and non-residence.
The purpose of conservation and restoration of heritage is to maintain the values, identity and history of the places, and in this way, creating humanly habitable places. However, the interventions carried out in some patrimonial buildings and public spaces do not always confer due importance to the values that make the human being appropriates of these; thus transforming into non-places.
To reflect on this topic, a case of study is established in the public space of the city of Cuenca, being this: Small Square Pedro Touloup. This one studied part of the problems of identifying what sense and meaning the public spaces possess in our society, from different factors that turn them into non-places. It should be emphasized that in this study one of the most important factors is society, since this also gives the essential characteristics of place and non-place depending on its position as a spectator, of its experience and relationship with the site.
