Resumen
The bibliographic research demonstrates the importance of the use of graphic organizers for the development of the thinking in the students of basic general education. Theoretically, the study is located in Educational Psychology, in the area of development of thought.
In the experience of pre-professional practices, the existence of some traditional teaching practices such as repetitive and rote learning of contents was evidenced. In addition, it was observed that the use of graphic organizers by teachers is limited, due to the lack of knowledge of its advantages for meaningful learning and the development of thought.
They are specific objectives of the investigation, to conceptualize the graphic organizers within the educative process; relate the use of graphic organizers to the development of thinking and compile types of graphic organizers to encourage the development of thinking skills.
The research required the following questions: What are graphic organizers? What are the main criteria for classifying different graphic organizers? And how do graphic organizers contribute to the development of thought? For the fulfillment of the objectives and research questions, we worked methodologically with bibliographical research.
The study demonstrates the importance of the use of graphic organizers for meaningful learning, since they facilitate the integration of previous knowledge with the new, organize knowledge in substantive schemes, and are tools that enhance creativity. In addition, they enrich literacy processes and particularly encourage learning to think and reason. For all these reasons graphic organizers contribute to the development of thinking
