Sexuality is a fundamental aspect human beings life’s because it is present in each
stage of their evolutionary development. Despite this, educating children in sexuality within
Latin American school contexts has generated strong disputes between different social actors
that have led sexuality education to adopt different teaching approaches in each educational
setting. For this reason, the current monography aims to explore how the implementation of
sexuality education for children has been provided in school contexts in Latin America. In
order to meet this objective, an exhaustive documentary research was carried out in several
bibliographic information sources, including books, academic articles, studies, research, and
publications of numerous individual authors and international organizations as well.
Subsequently, the information found was compared, analyzed, and contrasted in order to
proceed with the drafting of each chapter. This process made it possible to understand that
although various programs, laws, reforms, and policies have been developed to propose the
teaching of sexuality education from an integral approach, in the reality of Latin American
schools, essentialist approaches are implemented. Those approaches offer a reductionist view
of sexuality. Finally, it was revealed that in Latin American context, there is still a lack of
sexuality education policies and programs aimed to reach children
