Postpartum hemorrhage is one of the most common obstetric problems and ranks among the top three causes of maternal mortality, which determine greater hospital stay, so we must know them to focus on prevention, improving the quality of life of patients and reducing maternal mortality.
To determine the characteristics of patients with immediate postpartum complications treated at the department of gynecology and obstetrics HVCM Cuenca 2013.
METHOD AND MATERIALS: A descriptive study, with data collection from medical records in the field of gynecology and obstetrics by a form with data concerning: demographics, reproductive background. The information was entered into the Epi Info for tabulation. The results are presented in simple tables.
RESULTS: Immediate postpartum complications in patients treated at the HVCM 2013 are: 58.1% uterine hypotonia, anemia 23.6%, 8.2% uterine inertia, delivery incomplete 3.3%, maternal mortality 0 , 5%. 46.6% of patients were among those 15-23 years old, 36.7%.
CONCLUSION: In our study, postpartum hemorrhage was the most frequent and age of greater frequency was between 15 to 23 years therefore must implement actions and strategies to reduce the incidence of morbidity and mortality at this stage, so it is important to educate the adolescents on the pregnancy course health personnel should be prepared to identify risk factors, diagnostic procedures and treatment.
