This final degree work involves the development of an IoT device for remote moni-
toring of heart rate (HR) and oxygen saturation (SpO2), also called pulse oximeter, by
using free software and hardware tools. One of the main characteristics of this device
is that it has a Wi-Fi wireless connection through which it connects to a database that
is hosted on a cloud server which is accessed through an interface created in HTML
with PHP.
For the construction of the device, the MAX30102 module was used, which is a
system-on-chip specialized in obtaining HR and SpO2. The processing of the measured
parameters was carried out through the ESP8266 module, which allows the Wi-Fi
wireless connection to send the data. The device also has an OLED screen that shows
the values of HR and SpO2 and a lithium battery that allows it to be portable. All
of these previously mentioned tools are contained in a package that was designed in
3D for printing. The development of the software was carried out with the use of free
tools. The database was developed by MySQL while the server used was Apache.
To test the functionality of the device, two experiments were carried out. The first
experiment involved the use of healthy people whose results were compared with a
professional pulse oximeter for medical use. The second experiment was done in con-
junction with physiotherapy students as support in developing a final degree work.
In this experiment, the device was used to measure HR and SpO2 in Post-COVID-19
people. Same as before, the values obtained from this experiment were compared to
the values obtained with the same professional pulse.
Based on the results from the experiments carried out, a statistical analysis was
carried out on the difference between the values obtained with the constructed pulse
oximeter and the professional pulse oximeter used as reference.
