Resumen
This research project focuses on the study of the evolution of instrumentation in the musical rhythms of Ecuadorian folklore. With this purpose, the musical compositions of the main exponents of the capishca style between 1970 and 2016 are studied and compared with the recordings and the sonority of contemporary folkloric instrumentation, represented by the work of the folk ensemble Ayllu Llacta. The study includes the recording of the new sounds and instrumentation used in contemporary folk music, through a musical production process which includes the pre and post production of four traditional folk music compositions. A tendency was found towards the acquisition of new sonorities through the incorporation of non-traditional instruments, as well as the use of electronic or digital instruments. This fact, however, does not reveal transformations which could alter the essential features of the traditional musical compositions analyzed.
