It’s clear that there are three dimensions in which development has not been fully sustainable on a global scale. First, economic growth has generated a marked trend of social inequality, second, the growth achieved and by which it continues to work has exceeded the capacity of load of the planet; and third, there is no relation between economic growth and improvement in quality of life.
Once Good Living was taken as a pillar of indigenous identity and as a flag of struggle to defend the rights and territories of indigenous peoples; some questions arose about the concept, scope and use of that term by several groups of the population. The need to answer the following questions arises: What is Good Living for the Shuar indigenous people of the Ecuadorian Amazon? Do they share a single idea or meanings of Good Living all communities? What are the visions of Good Living in the Shuar people?
The life of the Shuar people, is characterized by the constant conflict generated by its proximity to the globalized world. The interaction between the Shuar of Méndez and the mestizo, generates profound changes in the way of seeing, being and craving the Shuar; causing an internal struggle between what has always characterized this people and what they want to be and obtain today. However, it must be recognized, identity, the sense of belonging to its culture, its resistance as Shuar people, makes it an effective alternative to cope with development
