Background: Knowledge on HIV/AIDS infection plays an important role in the promotion of health and prevention of disease; the early initiation of sexual activity, not sustained use of condom use, number of sexual partners (1), and of the ignorance about the disease make Ecuador has a prevalence of 3.9%. (2)
Objective: To determine the level of knowledge and practices about HIV/AIDS among students in the educational unit César Dávila Andrade. Basin, 2017.
Methodology: A descriptive study, information was collected directly from students of the Educational Unit César Dávila Andrade using a data collection form which included: demographics, school children, marital status, residence, knowledge about HIV/AIDS, attitudes and beliefs. The data were analyzed using SPSS version 15.
Results: The 75.26% of the students have 17 years and a predominance of females (51.08%); 40.86% is in the third year, the Marital status Single (96.77%) and frequent urban residence (88.71%); 72.04% knows about the disease but the 70.96% is not able to establish the difference between HIV and AIDS, sex (47.84%) and blood transfusions (47.7%) are considered the most common infection; prevention campaigns (55.01%) and the educational institution (52.08%) provide information; the first sexual relationship occurred without the protection of 14-16 years with her boyfriend, currently 47.31% has had more than three sexual partners and the 72.04 does not use protection.
Conclusions: Students have poor knowledge about the disease it is necessary to implement educational programs on Sexual and Reproductive Health in the educational center to help responsible sexual behavior
