BACKGROUND: during the puerperium biopsychosocial changes affect the mother-child binomial, a period influenced by practices and beliefs. Likewise, the postpartum takes care according to her cultural vision is considered: the power of plants, relapse, food, and self-care; being the latter the most important and contains four patterns: protection of cold and heat, breastfeeding, adjust the body, and quarantine care. Therefore, in nursing, knowing the myths, beliefs, values and meanings practiced during the puerperium, allows to effectively foster care interventions.
OBJECTIVE: to determine intercultural postpartum practices; Tixán 2019.
METHODOLOGY: a study was carried out with a qualitative, phenomenological approach, and the technique for data collection was the semi-structured interview which was applied to 8 puerperal women of “Tixán”; former one was elaborated based on the categories, heterogeneity in the interviews was searched until reaching the theoretical saturation principle, later the process of coding was carried out; using the ATLAS-ti and Microsoft Word programs.
RESULTS: the data allowed to know that the puerperal women have their cultural practices in relation to the care of mother (care of the health team, family support, food, daily activities, hip care, clothing, hygiene, and complications) and the RN (health care team, vaccines, early attachment, bath, neonatal metabolic screening, cord care, breastfeeding, clothing and complications), this which can effectively promote care interventions that are aimed at guaranteeing well-being and improving the adaptation of the maternal-child duo, within their sociocultural context.
