Abstract
BACKGROUND: The neonatal and maternal morbidity in our country continues to be responsible for maternal deaths (90.2 x 100 000 live births) and children under one year (18.1 per 1000 live births) (INEC 2007), for reasons of pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum period because of lack of health resources, for which little information is available.
To describe the main causes of maternal and neonatal morbidity and quality of care at the Health Center Carlos Elizalde, Yanuncay Area No. 4 during 2010.
METHODOLOGY: A descriptive study of the major causes of maternal and neonatal morbidity in 2010 by collecting data from medical records perinatal database of the Perinatal Information System (SIP), books of births and hospital discharges of 338 patients admitted for delivery in health Center Carlos Elizalde.
RESULTS: Among the most common maternal diseases found are: genitourinary tract infection, malnutrition during pregnancy, mild preeclampsia and severe preeclampsia.
Neonatal diseases were: hyperbilirubinemia risk or suspected sepsis, respiratory distress, severe initial asphyxia, hypoglycemia, and others.
CONCLUSIONS: In the health area were found to No 4 leading causes of morbidity genitourinary tract infection as a cause of maternal and neonatal hyperbilirubinemia as a result, diseases that can be treated early to avoid immediate health problems and long term. The quality standards set by the MSP rule are met in full and there was no neonatal and maternal mortality.
