The objective of this study was to identify the relationship between the family functioning and emotional codependency on users of the Institute of criminology, criminalistics and family psychosocial intervention of the University of Cuenca. The type of investigation was quantitative of correlational descriptive type and transverse scope. It was worked with the users who were attended during the period January-May 2019, who were given a socio-demographic sheet, the questionnaire on family functioning (FF-SIL) and the instrument of codependency (ICOD) for both sexes. The study sample was made up of 49 users, of them 35 (71%) are woman and 14 (29%) are man, whose ages ranged between 34 and 38 years, (43%) represent married users, the (47%) completed their studies in secondary school and the (100%) have no disability. Of which the 28 (57%) persons attended are possible co-dependents 21 users are not possible co-dependents, while 16 people belong to a moderately functional family. There was a statistically significant correlation between the variables: family functioning and emotional codependency. Conclusions, it is evidence that most of the people attended are possible co-dependent and have a dysfunctional family.
