The research describes the training of the Educational Psychologist in Cuenca-Ecuador, in the University of Azuay, University of Cuenca, and Catholic University of Cuenca, this from a historical and contextual perspective. The focus of the research was qualitative, with an exploratory-descriptive scope. For the collect of information, the instruments used were a document analysis guide and a semi-structured interview guide. The units of analysis were documents related to the history and training of the educational psychologist, including records and career plans of each University. The people interviewed were selected through the experts sampling, which allows to choose a sample of people specialized in the subject.
At the same time, the results generated indicate that the emergence of the career of educational psychology occurs in the 1970s at the Universidad Católica de Cuenca (UCC), with its first graduates in the year of 1974. It is followed by the Universidad de Azuay (UDA) in the year of 1974, when it was part of the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador based in Cuenca. At the Universidad de Cuenca (UC) was born in 1977, within the Faculty of Philosophy, Literature and Education Sciences. The training of the Educational Psychologist in the city has been consolidated based on the milestones that mark the trajectory of the career and that have been modifying and influencing training processes, as well as professional practice of psychology in the city and country.
