Background:
In Ecuador there is little research done on the human voice, however there is a study of teachers in the city of Logrono province of Morona Santiago, which showed that 4.8% of teachers were diagnosed with functional dysphonia, having as main risk factors the existence of a greater number of students per class, more weekly working hours, large classrooms and higher noise levels.
Objective:
Describe the risk factors related to the emergence of functional dysphonia in teachers in public and private educational units of the canton Cuenca, July 2016 - January 2017.
Methodology:
This was a descriptive study of cross section, whose finite universe consisted of 1020 teachers North District urban area of Canton Cuenca, corresponding to the database of the Ministry of Education. The sampling unit corresponds to 280 teachers from public and private units.
For data collection a survey of 27 multiple choice questions was applied with a runtime of 10 to about 15 minutes, the results and the final data were analyzed in SPSS version 15 software.
Results:
The results were used to describe the risk factors to which they are exposed teachers to acquire functional dysphonia where, 7.1% of teachers do not have any risk factor, 82.9% would be related to risk factors. And only, 10% can assert that actually have risk factors to teach
