Background: acute diarrheal disease is responsible for about 3 million deaths worldwide, which is why for decades have been implemented health care systems to help reduce this number, the AIEPI strategy is the most instrument tool.
Objective: To determine the knowledge, attitudes and practices of mothers of children under 5 years attending health sub-center Barrial Blanco on acute diarrheal disease according to the AIEPI strategy in January - Jun 2016.
Methodology: A-quantitative descriptive study with a sample of 114 mothers was performed. The information was collected with the use of a survey caring ethical aspects. The tabulation was performed using SPSS 19 and Excel 2013, the results are presented in tables, graphs and histograms of frequency and percentage.
Results: In the present study found that mothers were between 13 and 43 years with a mean age of 26.4 years (SD ± 6,257), 52.63% had secondary education. 38.6% were housewives, 18.42% were professionals. Knowledge of group fluctuated 61.4% 38.6% good to very good. The 76.32% reported very good attitudes; 21.93% 1.75% good and bad. 69.3% had very good practices; 28.95% 1.75% good and bad. Good knowledge were: 79.82% continue breastfeeding, oral rehydration salts to 95%, recognize signs of dehydration 73.68% and 69.3% adequate food. Appropriate attitudes were given oral rehydration salts, lead the doctor and meet the medical indications. In practical 9 out of 10 mothers brought their children to the health center, give oral serum 96% and bland food in an 86.84%.
