Introduction: Pain is the most prevalent symptom in the emergency services, with whom analgesics decrease the metabolic cause significant instability and facilitate actions to counter this disease.
Objective: To describe certain characteristics of the use of analgesics in the emergency service Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital during November-December 2010.
Methodology: A cross-sectional study with a sample 1582 patients of Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital in the Emergency Services and Clinical Surgery, November-December 2010. Inclusion criteria were analgesic prescriptions. Exclusion criteria analgesic requirements with other emergency services, use of antispasmodics, analgesics and inhibitors of proton pump. Were surveyed medical residents and interns on the use of analgesics, side effects, information source and time of prescribing errors.
Results: 1582 cases were collected, of which 920 are 662 Emergency Surgery and Emergency Clinic. The mean age was 37 years, SD + -16. THE stabbing pain was predominant (57.07%). THE most widely used analgesic ketorolac (57.96%). IV was the most used (63.2%). The most frequently prescribed dose was three times daily (75.85%). The most common side effect is urticaria (50%). The source of information, more are reviewed by the physician medical journals (36%). Finally we have that 84% of medical personnel prescribed correctly while 8% have errors in prescribing.
Conclusion: The most commonly prescribed analgesic ketorolac is the most used route is intravenous, 84% is a good prescription.
