Resumen
Objective. Determine the labor consequences of traffic accidents in patients treated in the year 2010 in the two largest hospitals in the city.
Material and methods. With a cross-sectional design of the clinical files for a year belonging to people injured and treated at the Hospital Vicente Corral Moscoso and Jose Carrasco Arteaga of the city of Cuenca. We determined the characteristics of the accidents, the consequences and therefore economic working.
Results. There were 615 traffic accidents. 62.3% attended at the Hospital Vicente Corral Moscoso (MSP) and 37.7% in the José Carrasco Arteaga (IESS). The percentage of males was higher than women (63.9%). The singles were 42.9% and 42% married. 71% of those affected live in the urban area.
Deconditioning family was identified in 86.5% of accidents and family dysfunction in 80%. The difference between the average earnings before the accident and after the accident was significant (P = 0.003).
Discussion. The realization of few studies that include traffic accidents as a health problem does not have more background information. Compilations like this are a kind of situational diagnosis of a problem that affects the individual and collective health especially among the third and fourth decades of life.
