Resumen
In most Latin American countries, rural transport presents communication problems. In Ecuador, the inhabitants of rural areas of Cuenca canton lack permanent access to the public transport service, especially at night and at weekends. The only alternative of mobility that they have is the mixed transport constituted by double cabin trucks, which tries to cover this deficit but that has communication problems with its users.
The collaborative economy and its related mobile-oriented applications, while facilitating the connection between users and taxi drivers in the urban sector, do not adequately match the mobility requirements of the rural sector. In this study, the problems and limitations of mixed transport drivers and their users were detected so that mobile applications are efficient tools in rural mobility that differs in some aspects of the urban sector.
Through quantitative research, surveys were applied to transporters and users of mixed transport. The results of this research showed that mobile applications of the rural transport collaborative economy do not cover all the requirements to the same extent as it does in the urban sector. Among its causes are the lower signal quality, the lack of apps for rural transport and resistance to change.
