Resumen
Introduction: Cardiothoracic surgery is a specialty of medicine that deals with disorders and diseases of the cardiocirculatory system that may require surgical therapy to repair heart and thoracic defects with which a child was born, as well as heart disease that occurs after birth.
Objective: To determine the clinical epidemiological profile of the pediatric patient surgically intervened for cardiothoracic diseases at the "Vicente Corral Moscoso" Hospital between January 2013 and December 2018.
Methods: descriptive study, information was collected on forms from medical records. We worked with 100 pediatric patients from 0 to 15 years old, undergoing surgery for cardiothoracic diseases. The information was collected in a data collection form with subsequent statistical analysis using the SPSS Software Version 15.0.
Results: Patients are infants (59 %), from rural areas (57 %) and have low weight (50 %); The main reason for consultation is dyspnea (41%), the symptoms persist for more than 7 days (64 %). The persistence of the arterial duct was the most frequent diagnosis of cardiovascular surgery (30 %), those without extracorporeal circulation represented 80.5%; and, the frequent diagnoses in thoracic surgery were empyema (59 %) and esophageal atresia (12 %); pleural decortication (17 %) and lobectomy (16 %) were the most frequent chest surgeries; a mortality of 4 % was recorded.
Conclusions: The most frequent cardiovascular surgery is the persistence of the ductus arteriosus and the thorax is the empyema and esophageal atresia.
