Resumen
Introduction: The post dural puncture headache (PDPH), is the most common complication associated with the central neuraxial techniques. The incidence of headache, it varies according to the technical (epidural, spinal or epidural-intradural combined), the size of the needle, the design of the tip, the difficulty, age and sex of the patient and the experience of the anesthesiologist. Its incidence has been declining over the years, due mainly to the use of small gauge needles and with no sharp tips.
Objective: To compare the incidence of PDPH produced by the pen tip needle vs the cutting needle tip for cesarean sections.
Results: The overall incidence of postdural puncture headache in the group of patients was 8.4 %, 95% CI: 4.02 - 12.78. No significant differences were found in the incidence between the groups studied, p-value=0.772. According to the type of needle, the incidence of headache in the group of patients that the procedure was performed with the needle sharp tip is of 4.50 %, 95% CI: 1.23 7.77 and in patients who underwent lumbar puncture needle pen tip is 3.90 %, 95% CI: 0.84 - 6.96. Found a higher frequency of side effects in the groups of the needle pen tip, although these differences were not significant p-value >0.05.
Conclusions: there are no differences in the incidence of post-dural puncture headache in the maternal depending on the type of needle used pen tip or cutting tip
