Resumen
In the Technical Support Unit of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Aquaculture and Fishing of Chillanes canton, two artificial insemination protocols on a fixed time basis were evaluated as a treatment to synchronize the estrus. Ten repetitions of Cloprostenol Sodium and Dinoprost were used during this treatment. Each experimental unit consisted of a cow and the results were assessed using descriptive statists with central tendency and dispersion measures. It was determined that the use of Cloprostenol Sodium favored the fertility rate due to the fact that 80% of the total cows of the herd got pregnant. The cows showed a better reproductive behavior when using Cloprostenol Sodium because less treatments had to be applied, 80% of conception rate, pregnancy rate and a smallernumber of inseminations per conception (1,40 +/- 0,52). The insemination protocol on a fixed time basis using the natural hormone Dinoprost is more efficient because the initial pregnant weight is better (397 , 30 Kg +/-26,09), pregnancy weight (402,60 Kg+/-26,65), initial body condition (2,78+/-0,09) pregnancy body condition (3,18+/-0,16). The costs of the insemination using the Cloprostenol Sodium were lower;it cost USD 81,75 per treatment. On the other hand, when using the Natural Prostaglandin, the cost raises to USD 85, 50.
