Resumen
The objective of this research was to carry out a clinical-epidemiological study of leptospirosis in bovine females of reproductive age in. El Pangui cantón, Zamora Chinchipe province in 2019. A descriptive, observational, cross-sectional epidemiological study was carried out, for which 213 bovine females older than 2 years were sampled from 67 farms. Blood samples with and without anticoagulant were taken from each animal to evaluate hematic biometry, serum biochemistry and identification of pathogenic Leptospira serovars using the Microscopic Agglutination Technique (MAT) with a panel of eight serovars of live Leptospira borgpetersenii antigens (serovar Sejroe) and Leptospira interrogans (serovars Australis, Batavia, Canicola, Tarassovi, Icterohaemorrhagiae, Wolffi and Hardjo), considering a cut-off point of 1: 100. At the same time, information collected in an epidemiological survey was used to determine risk factors. Of the 213 samples analyzed, 26 were positive for Leptospira spp., Which represents a prevalence of 12.21%, four circulating serovars were identified: Australis (5.63%), Sejroe (3.29%), Bataviae (2.35%) and Canícola (0.94%). Of the clinical parameters evaluated, only the increase in white defense cells was associated with infection, which could be attributed to the response of the immune system of the infected animal. No risk factors statistically associated with Leptospira spp infection were found.
