Resumen
A proposal was prepared for the population training of Fatima Parish, Pastaza canton, in the
solid waste management. By means of the diagnosis, it is determined that the rural cleaning
system, collection, transport and final disposal of solid waste are made by the Municipal
Autonomous Decentralized Government of Pastaza Canton, covering the urban sector of the
parish and part of the communities by 60%. Only one collecting vehicle circulates, which does
not supply to serve the neighboring parishes of Diez de Agosto, El Triunfo, Veracruz, Fátima,
and Tarqui. In relation to the collection of solid waste, the lack of collecting tanks in the urban
part of the parish and its communities has created small open-air dumps causing environmental
pollution and aesthetic deterioration of those places. The purpose of this project is to integrate
the population in the integral management process of solid waste. The baseline was developed
about the Urban Cleansing System of the province, by the Municipal Autonomous
Decentralized Government of Pastaza canton; in order to determine the main existing problems,
surveys were applied to a sample of 296 citizens of a population 941 inhabitants, to know their
opinions on the management that the Municipality gives to solid waste. It is determined that
73% of the respondents do not know about the existence of an integral management plan of
solid waste in Fátima Parish. The proposal is to disseminate in the population basic information
about the solid waste management. Developing training workshops on environmental
conservation issues, aimed at teachers, representatives of organizations, neighborhoods,
educational institutions, public and private institutions and communities, to promote a change of
attitude in the population for a harmonious relationship with nature.
