Resumen
The purpose of this research was to evaluate the existence and potential of magneto tactic bacteria in the sediment of the Chibunga River located in the city of Riobamba at 2754 meters above sea level. An electromagnet was constructed to apply to the 1 Kg sample of sediment for two weeks to separate the magneto tactic bacteria from those that are not. It was isolated the colony of bacteria for magnetic field testing by varying the electric current of the turns through resistors in the circuit. Also were handled three different distances from the electromagnet to the bacterial sample, these two being the factors. The research design was experimental for randomness and control, factor 3 by 2. The results showed how it expected that, at a lower distance and maximum current, the response time to the magnetic field was shorter, while at a more excellent range and less current, the response time of the magneto tactic bacteria was longer. It concluded that, although there are colonies of magneto tactic bacteria in the Chibunga River, their potential in the electromagnetic field is not the best as in cases recorded in other studies, it is recommended to expand research with various culture conditions and bacterial growth for better results.
