Resumen
The aim was to evaluate the germination of guarango (Caesalpinia spinosa) (Mol.) O. Kuntze seed by applying two scarification methods in the Alacao Community, Guano, Chimborazo, using a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with factorial structure, with three blocks and nine treatments. Infostat software version 2017.1.2 was used for data analysis. The treatments were T1: Soaked in cold water 3 days, T2: Soaked in cold water 5 days, T3: Soaked in cold water 7 days, T4: Soaked in hot water at boiling T° 1 minute and soaked in cold water 12 hours, T5: Soaked in hot water at boiling T° 3 minutes and soaked in cold water 12 hours, T6: Soaked in hot water at boiling T° 5 minutes and soaked in cold water 12 hours, T7: Filed and soaked in cold water 12 hours, T8: Filed and soaked in cold water 24 hours, T9: Control. The variables evaluated were germination and survival percentage, height and number of leaves. According to the results obtained, there were significant differences between treatments, for germination percentage, treatment 7 with mechanical scarification, which was filed and soaked in cold water for 12 hours, had a mean of 30; for survival, treatment 3: Soaked in cold water for 7 days, obtained a higher value than the other treatments with a mean of 90; in the last evaluation, for height and number of leaves, treatment 8: Filed and soaked in cold water for 24 hours, had the greatest effect with a median of 5, 2 and 1.8, thus demonstrating the notorious effect of mechanical scarification. It is recommended to carry out research on different substrates for the germination of Guarango seeds to accelerate and increase the germination percentage.
