Resumen
The aim of this research work was to determine the in vivo anxiolytic activity of the Hypericum laricifolium flower hydroalcoholic extract, administered orally to mice Mus musculus, applying different pharmacological tests to evaluate the anxiolytic effect. The extract was elaborated with distillated water and alcohol at 70%; in a 1:10 proportion, 85 gr of ground dry plant with 85 mL of solvent. The extract was obtained by maceration for three days; then, it was concentrated until alcohol was eliminated, and it was lyophilized. For the evaluation of the anxiolytic activity, extract solutions guaranteeing concentrations of 25, 50, 100 and 200 mg/Kg were prepared. Finally, measurements for each biomodel were obtained, in three pharmacological tests: elevated plus maze (EPM) light-dark box (LDB) and open field (OF) tests. Clonazepam was used as anxiolytic reference drug. The data obtained were processed using two different software applications, Itopi for the elevated plus maze and light-dark box, and Emis for the open field tests. The most representative results for anxiolytic activity were produced by the 100 and 200 mg/kg doses in the three tests, presenting sedative activity as well, without affecting the locomotor activity of the biomodels. A toxicity study to determine the possible risks presented by the administration of Hypericum laricifolium extract at 100 and 200 mg/kg doses is recommended.
