Resumen
The objective of this research was to gather scientific and technical information on the improvement of diluents for the handling and preservation of porcine semen, knowing the availability and efficiency of diluents in the preservation of porcine spermatozoa. A bibliographic review of descriptive theoretical type was carried out. The methodological route followed basically comprised four moments: search, organization, systematization and analysis of electronic documents, without language restriction, related to the topic: Optimization of diluents for the handling and preservation of porcine semen, where much of the qualitative and quantitative information comes from various sources, both primary and secondary, such as: books, journals, magazines, technical reports, standards, theses, all electronic documents. The search was completed with the reading and tracking of bibliography referenced in the selected documents in order to provide a good basis and a global vision of the topic, which were prioritized according to the hierarchy of scientific evidence. The different short- and long-term diluents were investigated in terms of the fertilization capacity of the short- and long-term diluents of porcine semen. There are no significant differences in terms of fertility and prolificacy between the first 3-4 days of semen conservation with a certain degree of advantage for the long-term diluents since they allow preserving the boar semen for more than 7 days. In addition to providing the nutrients necessary for the metabolic maintenance of the sperm cell. Therefore, it was concluded that the most widely used diluents in swine reproduction worldwide are Kiev and BTS, since they have a high percentage of fertility and sperm motility after thawing. In addition, the use of long-term swine diluents is recommended since they comply with strict quality standards in their elaboration.
