Resumen
The aim of this work was to develop an organic deodorant based on plant extracts. Thanks to the quality tests carried out on the hydroalcoholic extracts of Cymbopogon citratus (lemon grass) and Aristiguietia glutinosa (matico), the presence of secondary metabolites of interest such as triterpenes and flavonoids could be evidenced, which provide it antibacterial and antifungal properties. The deodorant formulations were made using excipients of natural origin and hydroalcoholic extracts of Cymbopogon citratus (lemon grass) and Aristeguietia glutinosa (matico) at 5% respectively. Essential oils of Cymbopogon citratus (lemon grass) and Citrus limon (lemon) were also obtained, which help enhance the antibacterial action of the deodorant. The fifth of five formulations elaborated was selected with which quality tests and preliminary stability of the product were carried out. A pH of 5.85 was obtained, and the microbiological analysis showed the absence of pathogenic microorganisms such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli, meeting the requirements established by NTE INEN 2867. It was concluded that the deodorant had good quality characteristics and it was not susceptible to deterioration, demonstrating that it has adequate quality and safety. It is recommended that deodorant efficacy tests be carried out to corroborate its antimicrobial activity and obtain its quantitative data.
