Resumen
This research aimed to analyze the performance and costs of two B-segment vehicles through an on-road driving cycle after a fuel replacement from extra to super to determine the effects of octane change within an identical kilometer run. The tests were carried out on a 16.3-kilometer mixed circuit in Quito city with a total of 12 evaluations on Chevrolet Aveo Activo 1.6L 2010 and Chevrolet Corsa Wind 1.4L 2002. The determination of automotive autonomy was carried out using Matlab R2017a and Torque PRO software, together with an OBD II ELM 327 Automotive Scanner, with an identical protocol for each test. It was employed the Minitab computer program for the statistical analysis. Presenting an analysis of variance consecutively by Fisher's least significant difference (LSD) with a tolerance of 5%. Highlighting that the vehicle with the greatest benefits in terms of autonomy is the vehicle with the highest displacement. It concluded that if the change of fuel from extra to super looking for an increase in performance; there is a slight advantage of no more than 6% of its properties in engine performance. But if a decision is made considering a change based on fuel prices it is advisable to keep the extra fuel. Likewise, it recommended performing static tests on an automotive dynamometer with the driving cycles acquired in the research together with a different automotive scanner.
