Resumen
The objective was to design a reactor for the synthesis of active principles derived from the barbiturate acid by means of the condensation of Knoevenagel reaction. Through a bibliographic review, indole and barbiturate acid were identified as appropriate raw materials for the synthesis, having determined that the proportions suitable for the same are equimolar (1:1) dissolved in an alcoholic environment, experimentally It defined the temperature of 78 ° C as the appropriate to carry out the process and 2 hours as the necessary time. This synthesis of laboratory was carried out during the spring of 2016 in the organic chemistry laboratory of the Babes-Bolyai University, obtaining after the filtration and purification process an intense yellow solid with a yield of 94%.
Considering the experimental data that projected a reaction with good performance and moderate operating parameters, the engineering calculations were carried out for a production of 100 kg of final product (Barbiturate of 5- (Indol-3-yl) methylene), followed by the design of the Batch type reactor for said purpose, obtaining a tank with a volume of 0.25 m3.The designed equipment was analyzed later using dynamic simulation of computational fluids, guaranteeing the integrity and functionality of the same, obtaining from the thermodynamic point the period for required heating, which was 4 minutes and 45 seconds. It is recommended for further applications and reactor construction, to be careful with the temperature and operating time as they are the variables considered to be of greater importance, takes also into account that all barbiturates have psychomotor effects, so it is also recommended to be careful when the finished products are handled.
