Resumen
The objective of the study is to relate hemoglobin levels and psychomotor development in preschoolers of the Child Development Project, of the Francisco de Orellana canton 2017. Iron deficiency anemia is one of the main public health problems, several studies indicate that it is involved in psychomotor development. The study was cross-sectional, with a sample of 200 preschoolers, 88 girls and 112 boys aged 12 to 48 months, the Achievement Indicators Card was applied. This information was analyzed in the JMP 11 statistical software. The prevalence of anemia is 59%. By distributing the population according to the psychomotor development according to the age group, it is determined that there is a greater delay in children 12 to 24 months of age because the skills and abilities are gradually acquired according to age, for this reason, children aged 36 to 48 months do not have delayed psychomotor development. By correlating hemoglobin levels with psychomotor development (emotional-social, body-motor skills, natural cultural environment and verbal-non-verbal language), there is a dependency relationship as hemoglobin levels decrease the delay in psychomotor development increases because iron deficiency affects neuronal connections and the functioning of neurotransmitters in the brain.
