Resumen
The objective was to determine the ratio of the apparent volume of the udder, compared to the amount of milk produced by mixed Holstein cows in the Chimborazo province. To determine the ratio of the volume of the udder, 24 Holstein females were used, which were in second and third births belonging to the Pucate, San Jorge de Balcashi and Rocón Haciendas. Measures recorded to establish the udder volume calculation included: depth, width and length. The experimental results were evaluated by analysis of variance, Duncan test and to determine the degree of association Pearson's correlation analysis was used, using the statistical package Infostat version 2017. Holstein mongrel cows showed a significant effect on the volume and milk production where the lowest volume (80686.23 cm3) was found, in cows of second birth and the highest volume was recorded in cows of third birth with 102497.69 cm3, in terms of milk production, the highest was recorded in cows of third birth with 28.31 liters / milk / day and the lowest in cows of second birth with 24.03 liters / milk / day. Regarding the correlation between volume and milk production, it presented a high positive correlation of (0.69). So it is ratified that the apparent volume of udders, are related to the number of deliveries, as well as milk production and at a greater apparent volume of udders, milk production levels are also increased. It is of great importance that these results be used as a means of support to establish improvement programs.
