The study analyzes the news management of the UNASUR issue in three media of the Andean area in the period 2016-2018, from the institutionalization of communication in the agency, the comparative study of the treatment given to UNASUR in Ecuadorian media, Venezuela and Colombia and the main strategies and problems of communication within the institution. The theoretical perspective is based on the theory of framing and the existing postulates on the journalistic treatment. The research presents a mixed methodological approach, that is, qualitative and quantitative tools are used according to the proposed interests. The application of this procedure allows us to conclude that UNASUR does not have an explicit policy on communication, preferably it has opted for a positioning based on the UNASUR product, under a brand logic. The communication from and on UNASUR has been modified in coherence with the changes that have taken place in the institutional scenario and for this reason two stages can be recognized. From 2016 to 2018, the presence of UNASUR as news in the media went from a predominantly positive treatment to a scarce presence with a pessimistic view of the organization. The political conjuncture and the ideological nuance that characterized UNASUR influenced the framings and the relevance that public and private media gave to the organization.
