The water quality assessment at the drinking water collection point in the Lelia river, located in the Alluriquín Rural Parish, Santo Domingo canton, has three monitoring points located in strategic sectors of the object of analysis (before, during and then). Points from which composite samples were obtained to perform the physicochemical and biological analyzes, in each case.
For the calculation of the IQA index, the values of pH, temperature (° C), total solids (mg / l), dissolved oxygen (mg / l), nitrates (mg / l), nitrites (mg / l), BOD were used. (mg / l), COD (mg / l), phosphates (mg / l), ammonium (mg / l), total hardness (mg / l), fecal coliforms (mg / l), total coliforms (mg / l) , whose values obtained in the sampling points were PM1 (13.63), PM2 (21.60) and, PM3 (59.00) and, for the macroinvertebrates, the BMWP / COL index established critical water qualities ranging from very polluted waters to heavily polluted waters.
A total of six orders and seven families of macroinvertebrates were found in the three monitoring points (PM1, PM2 and PM3, being the most representative quantities: Chironomidae (55), Baetidae (15), Smicridae (4) in relation to the total number of individuals found, and others in lower percentages.
The quality of the waters of the Lelia river basin destined to meet the demand of the vital liquid in the city of Santo Domingo is of worrying characteristics, due to the organic pollution rates coming from the cattle herds located along the riverbank. of the water system qualify as heavily polluted waters, a condition that requires implementing strategies such as training farmers to relocate pens and reforestation with vegetation of the area. Actions that will allow the recovery of the water quality
of the Lelia river and that it will be possible to monitor through bioindicators that are developed as a result of the good quality of water required for present and future generations.
