Resumen
A three-dimensional scanner obtains a digital model of any object faster and more detailed than any other scanner. Its performance is based on the acquisition of distance measurements from a reference to the object that once processed form a three-dimensional point cloud. The accuracy of the model depends on the characteristics of the distance sensor, as well as the sampling procedure. For this work, a comparative study between types of infrared and ultrasonic distance sensors is carried out to define its functionality as an active part of a three-dimensional scanner. A mechanical structure with a fixed base and moving capability of the sensor on x, y and z, axis. Controlled by an Arduino board and MatLab as a visual interface, which allows varying the acquisition parameters in order to obtain quantitative data, and visualize the three-dimensional point cloud, so that the results of each sensor can be compared and establish the best operating conditions for a three-dimensional scanner
