Resumen
The socialism of the 21st century emerges as an alternative response of Latin America to achieve development after the neo-liberal proposals of the Washington Consensus failed, leading several countries of the region to economic and social crises. This proposal was born from several authors such as Dieterich Steffan and Tomas Moulian, but it takes strength in the political discourse of the former president of Venezuela, Hugo Chávez, in 2005. Later several authors make more contributions to this economic political model seeking to create a participatory democracy radical that allows to achieve human, social and economic development without compromising nature.
This academic article presents the Ecuadorian case through the discursive analysis of former President Rafael Correa, who during his mandate tried to apply the model of 21st century socialism in the country. This work contains three sections: 1) a conceptual theoretical systematization of several authors on 21st century socialism in Latin America; 2) an analysis of the media discourse on the socialism of the XXI century of the former president Rafael Correa Delgado in comparison with the theoretical assumptions previously raised; and 3) a section of results, conclusions, and contributions for the improvement of the political - economic model. The model studied did not have the proposed impact and that work should continue on this topic from the academy. Above all, the inclusion of communication as a bridge for the democratization sought by 21st century socialism is important.
