The Restrepia genus belongs to the Orchidaceae family, which is distinguished from other genera in the Pleurothallidinae sub-tribe by the attenuation of the dorsal sepal and the presence of osmophores. 61 species of Restrepia are recognized, distributed throughout Central America and South America such as in Venezuela, Colombia, Peru, Bolivia, and Ecuador, it grows at heights between 1000 and 3000 meters above sea level. in montane rain forest areas. In the country there are 20 registered species of the genus Restrepia, of which 9 are endemic.
Several of the phylogenetic studies that have been carried out regarding the genus are outdated and finally do not have a complete classification of all the species described so far. In the present study, 24 plant samples of the genus Restrepia belonging to Ecuador were collected, DNA was extracted using the modified Doyle & Doyle method and amplified with the molecular markers matK and rpoC1 with conventional PCR using the Phire Plant Direct PCR Master Mix kit, phylogenetic trees were elaborated based on sequences obtained in GenBank with the Bayesian Inference and Maximum Likelihood (ML) methods, with the HKY and Tamura 3-parameter evolutionary models, respectively. The georeferencing analyzes show that the central zone of the Equator is the one with the greatest presence of species of the Restrepia genus, for which a distribution map of the species was elaborated with the contribution of the data with the phylogenetic information.
