Abstract
This document proposes a heuristic methodology, which performs reactive compensation in transmission networks considering criteria of optimal location and N-1 contingency, to improve the voltage levels in the SEP and reduce the chargeability of the L/T through inserting the least number of SVC devices, thus guaranteeing adequate operation after possible N-1 contingencies. To do this, contingencies are made in the L/T and possible SVC are placed on the bars, in this way considering all the probable scenarios, and thus select the optimal SVC location based on the maximum and average voltage deviation and power factor. The proposed heuristic methodology applies to any SEP and does not consider dimensioning or control of SVC. IEEE 14 and 30 bar test models are taken as study models, where it is proposed to place SVC of different capacities to verify the feasibility of the same. The results obtained show an improvement in the voltage profile, a reduction in chargeability and an improvement in power factor. On the other hand, the applied methodology improves certain aspects of the SEP analysis compared to the existing ones.
