Resumen
This project exposes the design, development, and implementation of a digital twin of the
MPS laboratory of the Salesian Polytechnic University, Quito Campus Sur. Due to the
COVID-19 pandemic, face-to-face laboratory practices could not be carried out during the
health emergency. This project is proposed as a non-classroom alternative to carry out
laboratory practices and develop knowledge in automation. The digital twin was developed
in the Factory IO software, which has sensors and actuators that allow the virtual simulation
of the production system, programmed with TIA Portal. Through a PLC 1200 connected to
a computer through an ethernet cable, and using the Node-red tool, data is sent and received
between the physical MPS 500 and its digital twin. Firebase is used as a database service, to
store and synchronize information in the cloud. The digital twin works in real time by
replicating the process of the physical MPS 500 but can also be used offline on any computer
for practice.
