Reduce reactive power oscillations in an electrical system is essential to maintain stability, efficiency and reliability. For this reason, this article teaches a methodology for modeling a furnace system electric arc and a Statcom, in order to attenuate the reactive power oscillations, which can cause some problems such as harmonics, flickers, tripping protections, and others. The modeling of the electric arc furnace is performed using a Matlab programming platform applying fundamental principles of energy balance of a electric arc and a Chua circuit oscillator. then it will propose a static synchronous compensator model “Statcom”, which is a very effective regulation device when there are large variations in reactive power. From the models will be able to simulate the adequate capacity of the Statcom and verify its effectiveness in mitigating that oscillation undesirable reactive power in the power network, stabilizing the system and correcting all problems of existing quality.
