Since 1978, bean inoculation in areas under water stress in the State of Durango have been observed. The project started with the isolation and selection of Rhizobiurn phaseoli strains from uninoculated bean plant nodules. Studies were assays of strain selections in the laboratory, using Leonard's jar method, the best strains were used in field studies during 1979, 1980 and 1981, and coinpared with another national and international strains. The statistical analysis of the results showed that the yields detained with strains were as good as those with additions of nitrogen.
