El Peregrino Septentrional Atlante: hagiografía y Propaganda Fide

Abstract

La presente investigación examina la construcción literaria de Fr. Antonio Margil de Jesús y de la experiencia colonizadora y evangelizadora novohispana del siglo XVIII a partir del análisis de El Peregrino Septentrional Atlante de Fr. Isidro Félix de Espinosa. Para lograrlo, se expone, en primer lugar, una contextualización histórica de la evolución del género vita desde sus orígenes en el siglo III, hasta la forma que adquirió en Nueva España durante el siglo XVIII. Seguidamente, se examinan las características básicas de la conformación retórico-discursiva del texto de acuerdo con la preceptiva cristiana postridentina. Finalmente, se analiza la construcción hagiográfica de la subjetividad de Fr. Antonio Margil de Jesús como estrategia evangelizadora.

This research examines the literary thecniques and structure of Fr. Antonio Margil de Jesús and the New Spain colonizing and evangelizing experience of the 18th century based on the analysis of El Peregrino Septentrional Atlante by Fr. Isidro Félix de Espinosa. To achieve this, firstly, a historical contextualization of the evolution of the genre vita from its origins in the 3rd century to the form it acquired in New Spain in the 18th century is exposed. Next, the basic characteristics of the rhetorical-discursive conformation of the text in accordance with the post-Tridentine Christian prescriptive are examinated. Finally, a analysis of the subjectivity of Fr. Antonio Margil de Jesús, vis a vis its hagiographic construction as an evangilizing strategy, is realized.
