The objective of this dissertation is to analyze the socioeconomic impacts of bilateral trade on the Dajabon (Dominican Republic) and Ouanaminthe (Republic of Haiti) border, which during the last two decades was considered a problem in the relationship between the two countries. Socioeconomic impacts are assessed on the basis of aggregate data from the two countries, interviews, field visits and documentary surveys. The results indicate that the socioeconomic dynamics of bilateral trade in the Dominican-Haitian borders are as follows: border insecurity, low market infrastructure, imbalance, lack of product quality, lack of public policies at the borders and cultural miscegenation contributed to the situation precariousness of the two countries. Throughout the research, it was possible to identify the weakness of this commercial process with the institutions that work in the border, and to understand the level of problems that exist in the days of fairs are complex. At the same time, we observe the different forms of treatment received by Haitian traders on the days of fairs of the Dominican authorities. It was also possible to reflect on the social relationship of traders during fair days, to identify the main social and economic impacts to which we are going to give some recommendations that can effectively contribute as a support tool for public managers in the debates related to the theme. The research is articulated from three dimensions presented in the following chapters: 1) the historical question of both countries; 2) the conceptualization of Bilateral Trade of the countries and 3) the dynamics of the Binational Trade Fairs, whose recommendations are set out in the conclusions of this work
